There’s no doubt about it, HTML emails can be eye catching and striking, but how are they really received in the inbox?
There is much debate surrounding the use of plain text emails within marketing campaigns and we at CommuniGator offer many benefits to utilising this simple tool. So, why should you use a plain text version of your email within your campaign?
- Mobile Devices - Many of us use our Blackberries and iPhones to receive emails these days, and quite often these mobile devices don’t render HTML correctly, which can leave your email skewed and the recipient confused! Try to avoid this by creating a simple text email that conveys the main message of your campaign, in order that the addressee knows what you’re trying to say and can click through accordingly.
- Don’t be a spammer! – Spam filters make a judgement about your email and are increasingly likely to block messages which don’t have a text version available. To increase the deliverability of your email, take 2 minutes to put together a text version of your message which should decrease your spam rating, and therefore actually improve the deliverability of your HTML creative.
- Time Saving - Text emails are quicker and simpler to create than the average HTML, and are therefore a very useful aid in delivering your email. The absence of heavy imagery and complex formatting means that the speed in which your email is delivered is increased; perfect for sending out quick campaigns.
Of course there are upsides to the use of HTML in your marketing; cool looking displays and arresting imagery are all part of a strategic email campaign, but try to ensure that you’re getting the best from your emails by incorporating plain text too!
